New Host-Based POS Communications Software Announced

Systematic Software Solutions, Inc. announces the release of Version 1.2 of its StoreConnect software.  StoreConnect is Systematic’s flagship Point-of-Sale communications product. It reliably and efficiently moves data throughout POS networks and seamlessly supports any mixture of SNA, TCP/IP, legacy and cutting-edge platforms.

In addition to its new features, described below, StoreConnect V1.2 incorporates the formerly separate products: ISRS, STS/1 and StoreConnect V1.1. See the accompanying press release (here) for more details on the combining of these products.

An important new feature in this release is support for an alternate TCP/IP destination name or address for store controllers. If an alternate destination is configured, StoreConnect will automatically switch to it, whenever communications with the primary TCP/IP destination fails.

In addition, when used in conjunction with the latest versions of Systematic’s HostConnect/NT™ or HostConnect/4690™ in-store products, also announced today (click here for details), StoreConnect supports two new valuable features: Retrieval of store system directory listings and fully-qualified names from the host.

The directory list retrieval function allows users or programs at the host to obtain and process a list of store files residing in any specified disk directory. It is a critical base function for higher-level communications applications, such as on-demand store file retrieval, directory level transfer groupings and enhanced software distribution.

The addition of support for fully-qualified names is an important feature, increasing the products’ versatility while greatly simplifying communications functions. It removes the former restriction of the six character, IBM-defined file name. Now, instead of defining a store-level alias or logical definition for that name, users can simply specify the file, program name or command string to be used. The name can be fully-qualified (drive letter, one or more sub-directories) and reference any location permitted by the store’s operating system.  With this new support, users can easily move files to and from the directories of their choosing as well as starting store-based programs and batch files.

A number of other improvements have also been made in this release, including:

This new release continues our commitment to our customers, to provide them with solutions to meet today’s and tomorrow’s POS communications needs.

General Availability of this new release is scheduled for September, 2001 and will be provided, at no additional charge, to all customers subscribed to our Program Maintenance Service on the date of release.  At that time, on-site training and support for the new release will be available.  Users subscribed to the Level II Service Plan are eligible for this on-site support at no-charge, upon request.
