New Windows NT® and 4690OS Communications Software Announced
Systematic Software Solutions, Inc. announces the release of Version 3.1 of its HostConnect/NT™ communications software and Version 2.2 of its HostConnect/4690™ software.
HostConnect/NT is designed for retailers deploying store solutions on the Microsoft® Windows NT® and Windows 2000 operating system platforms. HostConnect/4690 is designed for use with IBM 4690 store systems.
When used in conjunction with Version 1.2 of Systematic’s StoreConnect™ host product, also announced today (click here for details), these HostConnect products add two valuable features: Retrieval of store system directory listings and support for fully-qualified names from the host.
The directory list retrieval function allows users or programs at the host to obtain and process a list of store files residing in any specified disk directory. It is a critical base function for higher-level communications applications, such as on-demand store file retrieval, directory level transfer groupings and enhanced software distribution.
The addition of support for fully-qualified names is an important feature, increasing the products’ versatility while greatly simplifying communications functions. It removes the former restriction of the six character, IBM-defined file name. Now, instead of defining a store-level alias or logical definition for that name, users can simply specify the file, program name or command string to be used. The name can be fully-qualified (drive letter, one or more sub-directories) and reference any location permitted by the store’s operating system. With this new support, users can easily move files to and from the directories of their choosing as well as starting store-based programs and batch files.
These
new releases build on the established reliability and performance of
Systematic’s POS communications solutions, so that we can continue to
provide our customers with “best-in-breed” products.
